AKIRO - NIKKEI HAND ROLL

BAR

A Dialogue Between Peru and Japan

Location: Chicago, United States

Year: 2025

Scope: Construction

Akiro Chicago was designed by Peruvian architect Daniela Bedoya, with whom we collaborated in the construction of this Nikkei hand roll bar. The project embraces the quiet elegance of Japanese minimalism while reflecting the warmth and soul of Peruvian craftsmanship.

The design revolves around the balance between restraint and emotion — where every texture, light, and surface feels intentional. A rhythmic wooden reticle defines the space, while soft, hand-painted textiles made from recycled materials introduce a tactile, human presence. These artworks, crafted by diverse artists, elevate simplicity into poetry, turning sustainability into beauty.

Warm wood tones, delicate white fabrics, and muted grays create an atmosphere of intimacy and focus — drawing attention to the bar as the heart of the experience. The gentle lighting enhances the dialogue between material and shadow, revealing a space that feels both precise and soulful. Akiro reflects the quiet coexistence of two worlds — where Japanese precision meets Peruvian warmth, and every detail speaks of care, craft, and connection.
