Scope: Interior Design
Mate & Company is rooted in one of Argentina’s most meaningful traditions: the ritual of sharing mate. More than a beverage, mate is an experience built around gathering, connection, and community. We translated this tradition into a contemporary café where Argentine heritage is expressed through materiality, warmth, and the way the space brings people together.
The design draws inspiration from the natural origins of yerba mate and the organic patterns found in wood grain. These irregular forms evolve into the space’s defining architectural element: a sculptural wood ceiling that flows throughout the café, creating movement while bringing warmth and intimacy to the interior. Integrated lighting follows its geometry, emphasizing its layered composition and creating a soft, warm atmosphere throughout the day.
Light woods, earthy greens, woven textures, and natural materials establish a grounded palette, while handcrafted cement-textured walls introduce a subtle Latin American character and a sense of imperfection and craft. Woven pendant lights and textiles inspired by traditional Argentine weaving add another layer of texture and heritage, balanced by greenery and contemporary detailing.
The result is a space that feels bright yet intimate, organic yet refined—a contemporary interpretation of Argentine culture centered around the simple ritual of gathering, sharing, and staying a little longer.
